Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Advanced stress, fatigue, vibration, and thermal simulation to validate designs and diagnose structural issues in complex equipment.
Our Approach
Igneum delivers specialist finite element analysis services for complex structures where standard analytical methods are insufficient. Our FEA capability extends beyond routine linear stress analysis to include non-linear structural behaviour, advanced fatigue assessment, sequential multi-step assessment, coupled thermo-mechanical simulation, and dynamic analysis for vibration and resonance problems.
We work closely with clients to define the right analysis approach for each problem — balancing analytical rigour with practical engineering judgement. Every model is built with clear assumptions, validated against known benchmarks, and documented to a standard that supports independent review.
Our fatigue assessment capability is a particular strength. We apply specialist methodologies including variable amplitude fatigue (rainflow counting, damage accumulation), multiaxial fatigue criteria, and weld fatigue assessment to AS/NZS standards and international codes including BS 7608 and Eurocode 3.
Equipment & Applications
- Mobile equipment structures
- Welded connections
- Fatigue-critical details
- Mechanical components under complex loading
- Equipment operating under combined thermal and mechanical loads
- Rotating and reciprocating equipment with vibration-related defects or disturbances
Key Benefits
- Non-linear capability — Analysis of contact, large deformation, and material non-linearity that standard linear methods cannot capture.
- Specialist fatigue assessment — Variable amplitude, multiaxial, and weld fatigue analysis using industry-leading methodologies.
- Coupled analysis — Thermo-mechanical simulation for equipment operating under combined thermal and structural loading conditions.
- Vibration analysis — Modal, harmonic, and transient dynamic simulation to diagnose resonance and vibration-driven defects, and to confirm that remediation measures will resolve the issue before implementation.
- Design validation — Independent verification that structural modifications and new designs meet their required performance and design life.
